About us

One country. Planned by season, at its real scale.

ABOUT

The name

Outback and reef: the red interior and the coral coast. The two halves of Australia, and most of what lies between them, planned properly.

Australia planned as three or four regions in the right season, with the lodges, guides and flights that make the distances worth it.

How we plan

Four steps

  1. 01

    The month

We start with when you can travel, and show you which regions are in their right season.

  2. 02

    The regions

Three or four, rarely more. We check the flights between them and count the travel days.

  3. 03

    The places to stay

Lodges, camps and huts we'd book ourselves, and the guides and operators who make each region.

  4. 04

    The details

Park passes, permits, stinger suits, the flight that leaves at the right time. Then we leave the hour after sunset free.

What we don't do

No coach tours. No pontoons.

We don't sell the classic circuit in ten days, the Rock as a day trip, or the reef from a crowded platform. We don't publish reviews we can't show you, or awards we haven't won.

We do tell you when a place is out of season, when a plan has too many flights, and when a region needs another night. We'd rather you saw three places properly than seven from an airport.

Country

Whose land it is

Every journey we plan crosses the Country of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We book Aboriginal-owned operators where they exist, name Traditional Owners where they ask to be named, and tell you before you go which places shouldn't be photographed or entered.

Outback & Reef acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the Countries our travellers visit, and pays respect to Elders past and present. Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.
